Antigen retrieval is where many IHC and immunofluorescence protocols lose consistency. Microwaves and water baths heat unevenly, sections can lift off in boiling buffer, and cooling is left to the bench clock. This antigen retrieval system runs the whole step under temperature control: it heats the retrieval buffer, holds the slides at the set temperature for the programmed time, then cools the buffer with a built-in fan before you take the slides out.
Up to 96 slides fit in one run, so all the slides in a study see identical conditions and stain consistently from batch to batch. Sections stay on the slide through the whole process, including collagen-rich tissues that tend to lift, such as skin, aorta, heart valve, trachea, bone, and muscle.
Choose a program on the touchscreen: paraffin sections, frozen sections, special samples, or one of five custom programs where you name the protocol and set its time, temperature, and buffer. Temperature is adjustable from 5 °C above room temperature to 100 °C in 1 °C steps, with ±2 °C accuracy. The system heats acidic and alkaline buffers from pH 6 to 9 directly, including ConductScience citrate pH 6.0 and Tris-EDTA pH 8.0 and 9.0 retrieval buffers.
Two run modes fit different workflows. In Preheat mode the buffer comes to temperature first and the system prompts you to add the slides; in Direct Run mode slides and buffer go in together, which suits easily detached tissues. A float switch watches the buffer level and stops the run with an alarm if it drops too low. When retrieval ends, open the lid and the fan cools the buffer at low, medium, or high speed.
At 7.1 kg and 463 × 232 × 290 mm, the system fits on a standard bench beside your staining station. Pair it with ConductScience adhesion slides to keep sections in place, and with the low-temperature ultrasonic bone decalcification system for IHC on bone.
Choose the 110 V version for standard US outlets or the 220 V version; both run at 50/60 Hz within ±10% of rated voltage.
How It Works
Heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) uses hot buffer to reverse the protein cross-links that formalin fixation creates, exposing antigens so antibodies can bind. How evenly and reproducibly slides are heated, held, and cooled has a large effect on staining intensity and background.
The heating chamber holds the retrieval buffer and a basket rack of slide racks. You pick a program on the touchscreen; the system heats the buffer to the set temperature (up to 100 °C, ±2 °C), starts the countdown once the temperature is stable, and sounds a buzzer when retrieval ends. Open the lid and a fan cools the buffer at the speed you choose, so slides cool in their buffer under control instead of on the bench. A float switch stops the run if the buffer falls below the minimum level.

Practical Tips
Fill buffer above the float switch's spring and below the top of the float, enough to cover the slides fully.
Why: Too little buffer triggers the low-level stop; the best volume fully submerges the slides.
Keep the lid open while the fan cools the buffer.
Why: An open lid lets the fan cool the buffer properly and protects the fan's service life.
Save each antibody's validated time, temperature, and buffer as a named custom program.

How many slides can I process at once?
