The meter reads CO₂ from 0 to 2,000 ppm at 1 ppm resolution. Its accuracy is within 1% of full scale.
It runs as an open system, with air passing once through the chamber, or as a closed system, with the same air recirculating. An electronic flow meter measures the air flow.
Sensors also read the temperature and relative humidity of the air inside the leaf chamber and of the ambient air.
A 256 × 160 pixel LCD shows the readings. The meter is built mainly for teaching and simple experiments.

Setup Guide
Does it measure photosynthesis?
No. It reads CO₂ in the leaf chamber, with air temperature and humidity. For photosynthesis rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration, choose our plant photosynthesis meter.
What is the difference between an open and a closed system?
In an open system, air passes once through the chamber at a measured flow rate. In a closed system, the same air recirculates between the chamber and the meter, so CO₂ from a leaf in the dark builds up over time.
How do I calculate a respiration rate from the readings?
In a closed system, note how fast CO₂ rises. Use that rise, the volume of the closed loop and the leaf area in the chamber to calculate respiration per unit leaf area.
