The Rodent Event Arena provides a familiar open field in which investigators can vary the identity, location, and occasion of rewarded events. A seven-by-seven removable tile field supports five configurable sandwell locations, while four perimeter start boxes vary the direction of entry.

Manual adaptation of the published rat system

The source method uses remote start-box gates. This base configuration substitutes manually operated sliding gates and includes no motors, pneumatics, sensors, or control console. The published rat dimensions remain the standard; mouse scaling is reviewed only as a custom investigator-approved drawing.

Separate positions from interchangeable sandwells

Five modified floor tiles define active positions during a session. Fifteen removable sandwells form three matching sets of five for cleaning and odor control. Two distinctive intra-arena cues aid orientation while the surrounding room cues and start sequence remain protocol-controlled.
