The Double Y Angulated Maze is a specialized apparatus featuring two Y-shaped mazes connected at the ends of each tail.

This setup was utilized in a study by David Bett et al. (2012) to investigate the role of the hippocampus in vicarious trial-and-errors (VTEs) during spatial memory tasks and simple visual discrimination (VD) tasks. Constructed from acrylic, the Y-maze includes a start box, two choice boxes, and four goal boxes, all interconnected by alleyways. Each box has an octagonal shape. Prior to maze training, rats were placed on a food deprivation schedule and handled for 5 minutes each day over three days. They were then trained to navigate from the start area to locate food rewards in one of the four goal boxes. MazeEngineers provides the Double Y-maze for use with both mice and rats, with options for custom coloring and other modifications available upon request.

The Double Y Angulated Maze consists of two Y mazes joined at the end of each tail. Rats were first started on a food deprivation schedule and handled for 5 min/day for 3 days prior to initial maze training. Then rats were trained to run from the start area on the maze and find the location of food rewards in one of the four-goal boxes. Mazeengineers offers the Double Y-maze for both mice and rats.
