The Portable Fruit Hardness Meter is a professional handheld instrument designed to measure the firmness of fruits with precision, making it well suited for agricultural research, post-harvest quality control, and food processing applications. It quantifies hardness—a key indicator of ripeness, shelf life, and texture—by applying a controlled force through interchangeable probes and reporting the result on a clear digital display.
Three probe sizes are included to accommodate fruits across the full softness-to-hardness spectrum, and results can be expressed in your preferred unit—kg/cm², N/cm², lb/cm², or kPa—switchable at any time. Measurement accuracy is 0.1% FS with a resolution of 0.01, and the auto-peak detection function captures and holds the peak penetration value so readings are consistent regardless of the operator's release speed.
Data management is a core strength of this meter. Each measurement is saved with its peak value, timestamp, location, and ID, and the device stores more than 10,000 entries. Records can be organized into groups (up to 200 groups, 96 entries each), with automatic calculation of average, maximum, and minimum per group—ready for statistical review. Data can be browsed or deleted on the device by time or ID, and Bluetooth sync to a companion mobile app allows further upload to research platforms or computer review.
At under 500 g and 206 × 85 × 40 mm, the meter is genuinely portable for orchard, greenhouse, or packhouse use. A single charge supports 12 hours of continuous operation, and audible alerts notify you of overload conditions or low battery. An optional test rig is available when standardized, bracket-mounted measurements are required for higher reproducibility.

What types of fruit can this hardness meter measure?
The meter ships with three interchangeable probe sizes specifically chosen to cover a wide range of fruit textures, from soft fruits such as berries and peaches to firmer varieties such as apples and pears. Selecting the appropriate probe for your crop type ensures accurate, repeatable penetration readings.
What measurement units does the meter support, and can I switch between them?
Yes. The meter supports kg/cm², N/cm², lb/cm², and kPa, and you can switch between units instantly on the device. This makes it straightforward to share data with collaborators or comply with reporting standards that specify a particular unit.
How much data can the meter store, and how do I export it?
The meter holds more than 10,000 individual measurement records, each tagged with its peak value, timestamp, location, and ID. Records can be organized into up to 200 groups (96 entries each), with group-level averages, maximums, and minimums calculated automatically. You can search or delete records on the device by time or ID, and transfer data wirelessly via Bluetooth to a mobile app, from which it can be uploaded to a computer or research platform.
How long does the battery last, and how is the meter powered?
The meter provides 12 hours of continuous use on a single charge. It charges via an AC adapter compatible with 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz power supplies, so it works with standard outlets worldwide. To extend battery life between charges, the display brightness and backlight are adjustable and an auto-shutdown function is included.
Can I use this meter for standardized lab-style measurements as well as fieldwork?
Yes. The meter operates as a standalone handheld device for in-field use, and an optional dedicated test rig (bracket) is available for bench-top or lab settings where a fixed, repeatable test position is needed to maximize measurement accuracy and consistency across operators.
