Overview
Infrared beam-break nose poke sensors for the Maze Engineers operant conditioning chamber. Each sensor detects when the animal inserts its nose into the aperture, providing a naturalistic response mechanism for protocols where nose-poke detection is preferred over lever pressing.

When should I use nose pokes instead of levers?
Nose pokes are preferred for 5-choice serial reaction time tasks (5CSRTT), drug self-administration with head-entry detection, and protocols where naturalistic investigatory behavior is the desired response.
