In a study conducted by Ingrid C. de Jong et al. (1999), the Pig Hebb Williams maze was utilized to investigate learning and memory in pigs. This maze featured a square layout with adjustable internal walls, allowing for varied configurations across trials, inspired by the Hebb–Williams maze design.

The experimental setup ensured the maze was situated in an isolated room devoid of olfactory, auditory, and visual contact with other pigs.

During the experiment, pigs underwent a 12-hour food deprivation period and were trained to locate a food reward (30 grams of standard pelleted pig food) positioned at the maze’s endpoint.
